If you believe every American child should have enough to eat, access to doctors and medicine, a secure home and a decent education…

If you believe every American child deserves a chance to dream…

Take the Pledge!

No child’s future should be pre-determined by poverty. I pledge my voice to help the more than 16 million children in the U.S. declare FREEDOM FROM POVERTY.

Right now, right here, 16 million girls and boys are struggling to keep up.

That is not acceptable – or necessary.

The Facts:

  • Nearly 1 in 4 U.S. children are living in Poverty.
  • Impoverished communities have an average of 1 book for 300 children.
  • 54% of rural children struggle with obesity.
  • Children in poverty are far more likely to drop out of school, be arrested for violent crime, and become teen parents.
  • A 4th grader living in poverty who falls behind in reading will not catch up without intervention.

The Solution: Sponsorship

Sponsors of U.S. children...

...help kids 5 and under with language and social and emotional development, equip parents with the skills and knowledge to successfully support a child's growth, and develop strong home-school connections.

...offer children in grades K-8 the tools and support the need to master reading. Sponsors make books available to homes where there would otherwise be none.

...fight childhood obesity by increasing rural children’s access to regular physical activity and healthy snacks.

When you sponsor a U.S. child, you help us break the cycle of poverty and enrich children's lives.

Your donations for your child are combined with the gifts of other sponsors and donors - rather than just being giving directly to your sponsored child - to support programs that help make life better for all eligible children and their families in the communities we serve.

Will I sponsor an actual child? Yes. You have the opportunity to choose and sponsor a specific child (by region, country, gender and/or age) and to communicate with them if you choose. This allows you to connect with your sponsored child and to establish a friendship that will carry a special meaning for you both.

How much is sponsorship? Sponsorship starts at $28 a month – less than a dollar a day. You will help change the lives of children in need around the world. If you can sponsor for $30 or more, or sponsor multiple children you can help us achieve even more. We have many child sponsors who have sponsored for over 15 years.

How will my child sponsorship donation be used? We strive to create lasting change for your sponsored child and their community through programs that focus on early childhood development, health and nutrition, as well as primary education.

Our experience has taught us that the most effective way to help children is by combining your sponsorship with those of other sponsors and donors - rather than just giving it directly to your sponsored child. This ensures that children in sponsorship communities, who may never have the opportunity to have a sponsor of their own, will still benefit from your support and our programs.

Are my contributions tax deductible? Yes. Please contact your tax advisor with any questions.

How long will my child sponsorship last? Sponsorship is a voluntary, ongoing contribution. You decide how long you are able to help. Many sponsors have supported our work for over 15 years.

Can I give a gift sponsorship? Yes. You are able to share the gift of child sponsorship. You will be able to enter the gift recipient’s information on the enrollment form. Your gift recipient will receive a card and welcome package introducing them to Save the Children’s family of child sponsors.

Who can I contact if I have any questions? You may email us at twebster@savechildren.org, or call us at 1.800.728.3843. As a child sponsor, you can also manage your account through our web site.

    • Randy JacksonToday, one in four kids is living in poverty. But it doesn't have to stay that way. We all have to do our part to help turn around the childhood poverty crisis and make sure that every kid gets a fair start in life.

    • Tracie Necole HayesI grew up in rural Kentucky where poverty was prevalent. Thankfully I had positive influences, including caring sponsors who helped inspire me to success and my Bachelor of Art Education at the University of Kentucky. • Wendi CameronI was so excited when I received my sponsor packet from Save the Children because it included a picture of Willow… a smiling, beautiful little girl wearing a pink t-shirt. My heart melted. Words cannot describe how incredible it feels to be Willow’s sponsor and to know that I am helping her and her community, but most of all, I love being part of her world.
